Pembrokeshire Players medal haul at South Wales Shuttle Tournament!

Tuesday 18th November 2015, By Phil Gwyther

Nine Pembrokeshire players travelled to Carmarthen for the South Wales Shuttle Tournament and all nine came back with at least one medal after a successful day’s Badminton.

At under 11 age, three Pembrokeshire players did extremely well despite being only seven.  The Patil twin brothers from Haverfordwest Club did very well with Eshaan getting to the semi-final before losing to Eli Owen from Pembroke Club.   Eli also only seven, did very well in the final but lost to an older player from Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Eshaan then teamed up with brother Amay to go even better and won gold in the doubles beating an older pair from Powys in a close match to clinch it.  Eli then won a second silver medal in the doubles with a scratch partner, again beating older boys before losing to Eshaan and Amay.

In girls under 11, Maisie Kite from Haverfordwest took Gold in doubles and silver in singles for the second tournament in a row.

The third Patil brother, Arnav, also performed well in the under 13’s and won silver in the doubles with a scratch partner.  Hannah Douglas also from the Haverfordwest Club won silver in the under 13 singles.

Jasmine Owen is still only just into the under 13 group but having won the under 11 Series last year, she is obliged to play up an age bracket in the under 15’s.  She showed her talent by winning her pool in the singles while fellow Pembrokeshire player Chloe Douglas also won her pool.  They both won their respective semi-finals and then Jasmine beat Chloe in the final.  Surprisingly they then lost in the finals of the doubles against the two Carmarthenshire players they had beaten in the singles semi-finals!

In the under 17 Boys, William Hughes (Haverfordwest) met up with long standing rival Brandon Evans (Swansea) in the semi final.  On this occasion William lost out and Brandon went on to win the final but the spoils went to William and his partner Tomos Jones when they beat Brandon and his partner in the doubles final.

So a total of 12 medals for the nine players and next on the schedule is the Swansea Tournament.

Maisie Kite, Hannah Douglas, and the three Patil "Musketeers" Eshaan, Amay and Arnav.
