New players are always very welcome at a tournament as it creates fresh interest and there quite a few fresh faces at the Junior Tournament at Bloomfield's new sports hall at Narberth on Saturday October 11th.
It was not a big event and was disappointing for the scarcity of girls but the boys taking part had a good competition.
Nikhil Mathias showed some good skills as he beat fellow Haverfordwest Club players Ashwin Gunasekaran in the semi final and Rakshith Vijay in the final of the under 15's.
Rakshith had beaten new player Tom Ablitt in the other semi-final with Tom then going on to complete a good first tournament by getting silver in the doubles. He had won his first match with J.J. Hackley from the Whitland Juniors and completed them with Chloe Douglas after J.J. had to leave early.
Ashwin and Rakshith were too strong for Tom and Chloe in the final deciding match so Ashwin and Rakshith took the golds.
In the Under 17's Gareth Griffiths from Cardigan lost to Joel Rees of Whitland in the Final.
Jasmin Owens beat Hannah Douglas in the under 11's girls final and tried to make it a double win by playing sister Chloe Douglas in the under 13's final but lost out in that match.
It was good to see a number of players from Whitland, Haverfordwest and Cardigan Clubs taking part in their first ever event and all thoroughly enjoying it. Now the more competitive of them can chance their hand in the South Wales Shuttle Series if they are prepared to travel. Tournaments take place in Gwent, Carmarthen and Swansea before Christmas and more in the New Year in Pembroke, Bridgend, Brecon and Cardiff.
Our photos show Hannah and Tom together and Chloe (single image). This was Tom and Hannah taking part in their first tournaments and both doing well.
