Pembrokeshire Badminton players were delighted to be at the mixed doubles tournament on December 1st which was the first ever event at the brand new four court hall at Bloomfield, Narberth. They were full of praise for the new building and after four hours of good competition everyone felt they had taken part in a competitive but fun day.
The main competition was narrowly won for the second time in a row by two talented junior players – Rebecca Jones and Ben Richards from the Pembroke Junior Club. They beat Mark Hubbard and Katie Norrie from the Meads Club. Ben and Rebecca took the first set in good style but a strong comeback from the more experienced pair had the Juniors looking very nervous. The Neyland pair took the second and were looking strong in the final set before the youngsters recovered a little composure to edge out winners by just a few points.
In the plate competition final, Claire Townsend and Dave Dreive beat Helen Charlette and Phil Gwyther in another close match.
It was good to see six new ladies taking part in their first ever tournament – hopefully the first of many, and although it was not a huge turn-out, everyone had lots of matches in a very pleasant competition.
